Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Algeria and Saudi Arabia have formalized arrangements for the upcoming Hajj season in 2026 (1447 Hijri) with the signing of a bilateral agreement. The agreement was signed today in Jeddah by the Algerian Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, and the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah.
According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs, the agreement outlines the operational details and logistical framework for Algerian pilgrims participating in the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The specifics of the agreement cover various aspects including the number of pilgrims, accommodation, transportation, and healthcare services provided to Algerian citizens during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
This agreement underscores the continued strong relationship between Algeria and Saudi Arabia, particularly in facilitating religious observances for Algerian Muslims. The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is an obligation for all physically and financially able Muslims to perform it at least once in their lifetime.
The National Office for Hajj and Umrah in Algeria will be responsible for implementing the agreement and ensuring the smooth and safe passage of Algerian pilgrims.
