President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria has stated that the official visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Algeria embodies a shared desire to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
In a joint press statement following discussions held at the Algerian Presidential Palace, President Tebboune welcomed his Somali counterpart and his delegation, emphasizing that this visit, the second of its kind, “reflects the mutual will to enhance our cooperation and our keenness to extend bridges of collaboration and exchange views on issues of concern to both countries.”
President Tebboune further indicated that the talks addressed opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, fisheries, the pharmaceutical industry, and higher education. He highlighted a significant step forward in higher education cooperation, announcing that Algeria will welcome 110 Somali students for training during the 2026-2027 academic year.
“We are in the process of strengthening this initiative and providing additional scholarships in the fields of vocational training, policing, and defense,” President Tebboune added, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development through education and capacity building. The discussions signal a renewed push to deepen relations between Algeria and Somalia across multiple strategic sectors.
This visit is seen as a crucial step in solidifying the partnership between the two African nations, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and mutual benefit in the years to come.
