Algiers – Finance Minister Abdelkrim Bouazerd addressed members of the People’s National Assembly (APN) this Tuesday evening, responding to their questions and concerns regarding the proposed Finance Law for 2026.
The session, held at the APN headquarters, was presided over by Speaker Ibrahim Boughali and was attended by several members of the government. Mr. Bouazerd’s appearance comes after days of intense debate and scrutiny of the proposed budget by parliamentary committees.
The Minister’s responses focused on key areas of the budget, including projected revenue streams, planned expenditures across various sectors, and the government’s strategies for managing the national debt. Several parliamentarians raised questions about the impact of the proposed tax reforms on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as the measures being taken to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.
Specific concerns were voiced regarding the allocation of funds for infrastructure projects in underserved regions and the government’s commitment to diversifying the economy away from its reliance on hydrocarbons. Mr. Bouazerd addressed each of these points, outlining the government’s plans to prioritize sustainable development and ensure equitable distribution of resources across the country.
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in the management of public finances. He reiterated that the 2026 Finance Law is designed to promote economic stability, attract foreign investment, and improve the living standards of all Algerians.
The parliamentary session is expected to continue in the coming days as lawmakers further examine the details of the proposed budget and seek further clarifications from government officials. The APN is scheduled to vote on the Finance Law before the end of the year.
