Algeria and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of defense and security. The pledge came during a meeting between Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, and Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence and War Veterans.
Lieutenant General Chengriha emphasized the deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties between the two nations, highlighting the shared desire to enhance cooperation. He noted that the relationship extends back to the era of joint struggle for freedom, dignity, and national sovereignty, underscoring that both Algeria and Zimbabwe have consistently supported the liberation of Africa from colonialism and racial discrimination since their respective independences.
“These relations are built on mutual respect, sincere solidarity, and constructive cooperation, characterized by continuous coordination and convergence of views on major issues of concern to the African continent,” stated Lieutenant General Chengriha.
The Chief of Staff further emphasized that the partnership between the two countries has been significantly strengthened following the official visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Algeria in July, at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This visit, he explained, provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to consolidate cooperation and enhance coordination on African and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit culminated in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, reflecting the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic relations. This renewed commitment signals a strengthened alliance between Algeria and Zimbabwe, poised to address shared security challenges and promote mutual prosperity.
