Algiers, November 12, 2025 – Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, received Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, today in Algiers. The visit underscores the deepening ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, both parties engaged in discussions concerning the state of military cooperation between Algeria and Zimbabwe, exploring avenues for its further enhancement in the future. They also addressed the prevailing security challenges facing the world, with a particular focus on the African continent. The officials exchanged perspectives on various issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to collaborative solutions.
Lieutenant General Chengriha emphasized that the visit of the Zimbabwean Minister of Defence reflects the strong fraternal and historical bonds that unite the peoples of Algeria and Zimbabwe.
“The historical relations between our countries extend to the period of joint struggle and the fight of our peoples for freedom, dignity, and national sovereignty,” Lieutenant General Chengriha stated. He further added, “Since their independence, our countries have contributed with steadfast principles and determination to support the struggle to complete the liberation of Africa from colonialism and racial discrimination.”
Chengriha highlighted that bilateral relations between Algeria and Zimbabwe are based on mutual respect, sincere solidarity, and constructive cooperation. He also noted the consistent coordination and convergence of views on major issues of concern to the African continent.
The Lieutenant General affirmed that Algeria considers Zimbabwe a reliable partner, stating that deepening bilateral military cooperation will be a cornerstone of the existing partnership between the two countries. “This partnership was strengthened following the official visit of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Algeria last July, at the invitation of his brother, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defence,” Chengriha added.
He also noted that the visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways to consolidate cooperation and enhance coordination on African and international issues of common interest, culminating in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields.
The Zimbabwean Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality she received upon her arrival in Algeria, highlighting the significance of the ongoing dialogue.
