President Tebboune Grants Clemency Request for Boualem Sansal

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has responded favorably to a request from his German counterpart, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, regarding the case of Boualem Sansal. The request, received on November 10, 2025, sought clemency for the Algerian writer.

According to a statement released by the Presidency, President Tebboune gave considerable attention to the request, recognizing its nature and humanitarian grounds. Acting in accordance with Article 91, Paragraph 8 of the Constitution, and following due legal consultation, the President decided to grant the request made by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
