Algeria Procures Limited Quantities of Wheat and Barley Feed

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria has finalized a purchase of an unspecified quantity of milling wheat through a tender process, according to market sources. The procurement specifies delivery only to the ports of Mostaganem and/or Ténès, suggesting a relatively small transaction.

Reported prices for the wheat ranged between $263 and $264 per ton, cost and freight included, for delivery to Mostaganem. Deliveries to Ténès were priced slightly higher, between $270 and $271 per ton, cost and freight included. The origin of the wheat is believed to be optional, potentially sourced from the Black Sea region or the European Union.

DZWatch has learned that the Algerian Inter-professional Cereals Office (OAIC) also conducted a separate international tender for the purchase of barley feed, also from optional origins. This tender aimed to ship a limited quantity to the same ports of Mostaganem and Ténès. Prices for the barley feed ranged from $263 to $264.50 per ton, cost and freight included.

Estimates suggest the barley feed tender targeted a nominal quantity of up to 50,000 tons. However, the stipulation requiring unloading at Mostaganem and/or Ténès indicates Algeria’s intention to secure only a limited volume. These recent purchases reflect Algeria’s ongoing efforts to manage its strategic grain reserves and ensure stable supplies for its domestic market.
