Authorities Foil Major Drug Smuggling Attempt in Setif

Setif, Algeria – A coordinated effort between customs officials and the People’s National Army has resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of processed cannabis in Setif. The operation, which took place on October 14, 2025, underscores the ongoing commitment of Algerian authorities to combat drug trafficking and organized crime.

According to a statement released by the Regional Directorate of Customs, the Regional Brigade for Combating Smuggling of Goods and Drugs in Setif, in collaboration with the Fifth Military Region of the People’s National Army, successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 39 kilograms and 440 grams of processed cannabis. The drugs were meticulously concealed within the cavities of a tourist vehicle.

The seizure occurred during a nighttime security checkpoint and subsequent thorough search of the vehicle. Authorities apprehended those involved in the smuggling operation and have handed them over to the relevant judicial authorities for prosecution.

“This operation highlights the effectiveness of the field coordination between various security agencies in combating smuggling and organized crime, and in safeguarding the security and health of society,” the Directorate General of Customs stated. The successful interception demonstrates the vigilance and proactive measures being implemented to prevent the flow of illicit substances into the country.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network and bring all those involved to justice. This seizure represents a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the region and reinforces the determination of Algerian law enforcement to maintain a secure and healthy society.
