Air Algérie is set to receive its first Airbus A330-900neo aircraft today, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of the nation’s aviation sector. A formal ceremony will be held at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers to commemorate the arrival of the new aircraft, which will serve as a modern flagship for the national fleet, particularly on medium and long-haul routes.
In a symbolic gesture, the national airline has named the aircraft “November ’54,” in honor of the Algerian War of Independence that began on November 1, 1954, according to the Minister of Interior and Transport, Said Sayoud.
This aircraft is part of a larger deal involving the acquisition of 16 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, aimed at renewing Air Algérie’s fleet and replacing older aircraft, some of which are over twenty years old. The agreement includes eight Airbus A330-900neo aircraft and eight Boeing aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to occur gradually starting this month.
Furthermore, Air Algérie has announced the purchase of an additional 16 ATR-72 aircraft dedicated to domestic routes, with deliveries expected to commence in June 2026.
With the introduction of these new aircraft, Air Algérie’s fleet will expand to over 70 aircraft, while the domestic fleet will reach 31 aircraft. This expansion will solidify Air Algérie’s position as a leading regional airline in terms of coverage and operational readiness. This investment underlines Air Algérie’s commitment to providing modern and efficient air travel services. The new A330-900neo promises enhanced passenger comfort and fuel efficiency.
