Comprehensive Plan to Modernize Transport, Expand Air Network

Algiers – The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport has unveiled a comprehensive plan to modernize the transport sector, expand the domestic air network, and improve services to the southern regions of Algeria. Minister Said Saioud announced the details during a session in the Council of the Nation on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

The plan prioritizes the digitization of public transport, aiming for a significant leap towards electronic payment systems. Minister Saioud revealed that 132 land stations are being equipped with electronic payment devices, with 66 already operational across various provinces.

A key component is the launch of “Mahatati,” the first digital platform for land transport, developed by SOGRAL. This platform will provide real-time travel schedules, seat availability information, and a mechanism for reporting safety concerns. SOGRAL is also introducing self-service kiosks for electronic ticket purchases using bank and postal cards, streamlining the ticketing process.

Further advancements include ETUSA’s planned launch of “E-KHADAMATI” in the first half of 2026, facilitating online ticket purchases and electronic payments. The SNTF’s online booking and payment platform has been operational since October, while Setram has launched the “ETWASSEL” application for easy and secure tram ticket purchases via TPE.

The Minister also highlighted progress on the unified ticket project, “BAYA Mobile,” which will integrate metro, tramway, cable car, railway, and bus services in Algiers into a single card.

Addressing concerns about air connectivity to El Bayadh, Minister Saioud emphasized the strategic importance of the new “Domestic Airline” in bolstering services to underserved regions. The expansion of the domestic air network remains a priority, with plans to increase flight frequency and connect more cities across the country, especially in the South.
