Algiers, Algeria – The number of entities actively engaged in waste recycling and processing has risen to nearly 20,000, according to an announcement made today in Algiers by the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amal Abdellatif.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Abdellatif highlighted the significant growth within the recycling sector, emphasizing its contribution to both environmental sustainability and economic diversification. This increase in active participants reflects a growing awareness and commitment to responsible waste management practices across the nation.
The rise in recycling initiatives is attributed to several factors, including increased public awareness campaigns, government incentives for businesses involved in recycling, and a greater understanding of the economic benefits associated with waste processing. The Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life has also played a crucial role in promoting sustainable practices and providing support to recycling enterprises.
The government has implemented various programs aimed at encouraging waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. These initiatives include financial assistance for the acquisition of recycling equipment, training programs for personnel involved in waste management, and the establishment of collection points for recyclable materials in urban and rural areas.
The expansion of the recycling sector is expected to have a positive impact on the environment by reducing landfill waste, conserving natural resources, and mitigating pollution. Furthermore, it will contribute to the creation of new jobs and the development of a circular economy, where waste is viewed as a valuable resource rather than a disposable byproduct.
Minister Abdellatif reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the recycling sector and promoting sustainable waste management practices. She called on all stakeholders, including businesses, individuals, and community organizations, to work together to create a cleaner and more sustainable future for Algeria.
