Strong Winds Expected to Hit Western Algeria: Weather Alert Issued

DZWatch has received reports of an official weather alert concerning strong winds expected to impact several western provinces of Algeria. The alert, categorized as Level 2 (Orange), warns of wind speeds exceeding 90 km/h in certain areas, accompanied by significant sandstorms that could reduce visibility.

The first group of provinces affected includes Naama, Sidi Bel Abbes, northern El Bayadh, Tiaret, and Saida. These areas are forecast to experience south to southwest winds with sustained speeds between 60 and 70 km/h. Gusts are expected to reach or surpass 90 km/h, creating hazardous conditions due to blowing sand.

The alert for these provinces is in effect from 9:00 AM today, Thursday, until 12:00 PM on Friday.

A second group of provinces, including Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Oran, Mascara, and Relizane, are also under alert. These areas are expected to experience similar south to southwest winds, with speeds ranging from 60 to 70 km/h, potentially reaching 80 km/h in gusts. Dust and sand particles in the air will also contribute to reduced visibility.

The alert for this second group of provinces is valid from 9:00 AM Thursday until 6:00 AM Friday. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.
