Algeria to Host African Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Conference

Algeria is preparing to host the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Healthcare Technologies from November 27th to 29th. The conference is under the high patronage of the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The announcement was made by the Algerian Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouideri, during a press conference on Thursday. Minister Kouideri stated that this inaugural conference presents a valuable opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing within the African continent and advancing its healthcare sector.

By hosting this continental event, organized in coordination between the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, the Ministry of Health, and in collaboration with the World Health Organization, Algeria reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of African solidarity and regional integration. This commitment aligns with President Tebboune’s vision of a strong, sovereign, and unified Africa, integrated in its development.

The conference will witness the participation of 15 African nations represented at the ministerial level, including countries such as Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Angola, and Uganda. In addition to the ministerial delegations, the event is expected to draw approximately 700 participants and 400 experts in the field.

Minister Kouideri further emphasized that this conference is in line with the African Union’s Vision 2063 and constitutes a significant contribution to the implementation of the African Pharmaceutical Strategy. This strategy aims to ensure equitable and sustainable access to medicines and healthcare technologies for all Africans.

The Minister also highlighted that the meeting will culminate in the adoption of the “Algiers Declaration,” which will include recommendations designed to achieve greater integration in the pharmaceutical industry across the African continent. He asserted that the conference will represent a turning point in strengthening African cooperation in the health sector and pharmaceutical industry, laying a solid foundation for practical partnerships that guarantee the right of the continent’s people to access medicines, healthcare, and development.
