Netanyahu Rejects Pardon Offer Requiring Guilt Admission

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Thursday that his ongoing corruption trial is “detrimental to both American and Israeli interests.” He affirmed he would not seek a pardon if it required admitting guilt.

In an interview, Netanyahu told Australian broadcaster Erin Molan, “This trial is utterly absurd. I spend three days a week in court while fighting a war and seeking to expand the scope of peace.”

Netanyahu emphasized that his trial “harms American and Israeli interests and undermines my ability to advance critical issues related to the future of Israel and the region.”

His comments came in response to reports regarding a formal communication from former U.S. President Donald Trump to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, allegedly requesting a full pardon for Netanyahu. The Prime Minister stated, “I will not seek a pardon if it means admitting guilt. That will not happen, and no one is asking me to do that.”

Trump’s reported request has sparked internal division within Israel. Critics view the request as a blatant American intervention in Israeli domestic affairs. Opponents argue there is no justification for halting Netanyahu’s trial and that he should admit guilt if he desires a pardon from President Herzog.

Herzog reportedly responded that “anyone wishing to obtain a pardon must submit a formal request according to the rules,” indicating that the decision now rests with Netanyahu, who refuses to acknowledge guilt.

DZWatch has reached out to both the Israeli President’s office and representatives for former President Trump for confirmation and comment, but has not received a response as of publication.

The situation remains politically sensitive, with many Israelis believing the judicial process should proceed without external influence.
