Algerian Media Lauded for Countering Disinformation on Palestine

Algiers, November 13, 2025 – The Algerian media has been commended for its unwavering support of the Palestinian cause and its role in combating disinformation. Dr. Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director of the Gaza Media Office, affirmed that Algeria has been a true pillar of support for the Palestinian cause in the battle of awareness against what he described as Zionist disinformation.

Dr. Al-Thawabta praised the steadfast position of the Algerian media, which has consistently made Palestine a daily national issue. He made these remarks during a symposium organized by the National Union of Algerian Journalists and Media Professionals via Zoom on Wednesday evening. The symposium, titled “Ceasefire…Not a Ceasefire of Truth: The Responsibility of the Media After the War,” addressed the reality of Palestinian media following the Zionist aggression on Gaza and the role of journalism in documenting crimes and supporting international justice.

In his address, Dr. Al-Thawabta emphasized that “the Palestinian journalist has not merely been a conveyor of events, but has become the event itself.” He noted that “more than 256 journalists have been martyred and 50 others arrested since the beginning of the occupation’s aggression on the sector on October 7, 2023, while more than 420 journalists have sustained various injuries, including cases of complete paralysis and amputation, while performing their duties.”

He further pointed out that the occupation has also systematically targeted media institutions, destroying 12 headquarters of print newspapers and magazines, 23 platforms for electronic newspapers, 11 radio stations, and 16 television channels. Initial estimates indicate that “financial losses in the media sector have exceeded $800 million.” Dr. Al-Thawabta reminded attendees that journalists in Gaza “continued their work from among the rubble and tents, raising their cameras in the face of the bombing to convey the Palestinian truth and break the occupation’s false narrative.”

Speaking on the war of narratives, Dr. Al-Thawabta paid special tribute to the Algerian media, who “were the best support during the war of genocide.” He emphasized that the Algerian press contributed to conveying the truth of the Palestinian cause to European streets, shifting Western public opinion from supporting the occupation to supporting freedom for Palestine.

Dr. Al-Thawabta also touched on the importance of documenting crimes and preserving Palestinian memory, calling for “the establishment of a national digital archive and the submission of media files supporting the course of international justice against Zionist war criminals.” He added that “the media is no longer just a witness, but a key player in the pursuit of justice.”
