Gaza Media Office Praises Algeria’s Support for Palestine

The Director of the Gaza Media Office, Dr. Ismail Al-Thawabta, has lauded Algeria as a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause in the battle of awareness against what he described as the Zionist disinformation machine. He commended the unwavering stance of Algerian media, which has consistently treated Palestine as a daily national issue.

Dr. Al-Thawabta’s remarks were delivered during a seminar organized by the National Union of Algerian Journalists and Media Professionals via Zoom. The seminar, titled “Ceasefire…Not a Ceasefire of Truth: The Responsibility of the Media After the War,” addressed the reality of Palestinian media following the recent aggression against Gaza and the role of journalism in documenting crimes and supporting international justice.

He emphasized that “the Palestinian journalist has not merely been a reporter of events, but has become the event itself.” He noted that “more than 256 journalists have been martyred and 50 others arrested since the beginning of the occupation’s aggression against the Strip on October 7, 2023, while more than 420 journalists have sustained various injuries, including cases of complete paralysis and amputation of limbs while performing their duties.”

Dr. Al-Thawabta further stated that the occupation systematically targeted media institutions, destroying 12 headquarters of print newspapers and magazines, 23 platforms for electronic newspapers, 11 radio stations, and 16 television channels. Initial estimates indicate that “financial losses in the media sector have exceeded $800 million.” He reminded that journalists in Gaza “continued their work from among the rubble and tents, raising their cameras in the face of the bombing to convey the Palestinian truth and break the occupation’s false narrative.”

Addressing the war of narratives, Dr. Al-Thawabta extended special greetings to Algerian media professionals who “were the best support during the war of genocide.” He highlighted that Algerian journalism contributed to conveying the reality of the Palestinian cause to European streets, shifting Western public opinion from supporting the occupation to supporting freedom for Palestine.

The Director of the Gaza Media Office also touched upon the importance of documenting crimes and preserving Palestinian memory. He called for the “establishment of a national digital archive and the submission of media files supporting the course of international justice against Zionist war criminals,” adding that “the media is no longer just a witness, but has become a fundamental pillar in the pursuit of j”
