The Polisario Front has described Israel’s decision to recognize the “alleged sovereignty” of Morocco over the Western Sahara territory as “null and void” and has risen against the maneuvers. The Algerian government considers Israel’s recognition of the “alleged sovereignty” of Morocco over the Western Sahara territory a “blatant violation” of international law, especially the decisions of the UN Security Council related to the issue. According to Algiers, the decision heralds “a new plot in the series of maneuvers and the policy of escaping forward adopted by the Moroccan occupation.”

The Polisario Front, which leads the Sahrawi people’s struggle against Moroccan occupation and for the realization of their legitimate right to self-determination and independence, has qualified Israel’s decision as “null and void” and has risen against the “joint subversive, security, and military maneuvers” aimed at destabilizing the North African region and the Sahel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at a time when he is intensifying attacks against the people of occupied Palestine and facing strong opposition in his own country, recently informed King Mohammed VI of Tel Aviv’s initiative to “recognize the sovereignty” of Morocco over the Western Sahara.

In December 2020, in the final days of the Trump administration, the United States took a similar step, and in return, Rabat restored diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv. Since then, Morocco and Israel have increased cooperation in the fields of trade and tourism, but especially in military and security plans under the auspices of Washington.

China and Algeria: A Longstanding Friendship – China and Algeria have discussed at the highest level the good relations between the two countries and reviewed bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative and other areas.

Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Algeria during his recent meeting in Beijing with his North African counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Both parties agreed on a positive assessment of good bilateral relations and discussed international and regional matters, as well as other topics of common interest.

Tebboune visited China for five days in July, where he held discussions on practical cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative. Observers speculate that the Algerian delegation may have discussed Algeria’s interest in joining the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), whose summit is taking place in August in Johannesburg.

In 2014, Algeria established a comprehensive strategic partnership with China, becoming the first Arab country to do so. The two parties previously celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
