Multiple wildfires have erupted across Algeria, prompting a large-scale response from the Civil Defense. As of Thursday evening, authorities reported a total of 17 fires impacting vegetation, including forests, thickets, and scrubland, across several provinces. Efforts to contain the blazes and minimize damage are ongoing.
According to the Civil Defense, active firefighting operations continue at 10 locations, with some receiving both ground and aerial support. Three fires have been brought under control and are currently under surveillance to prevent reignition. Additionally, four fires have been completely extinguished.
In Algiers province, intervention teams successfully extinguished a scrubland fire in the Haidra municipality, and monitoring continues. In Tipaza province, firefighters are battling three separate fires in the municipalities of Larhat, Muslim, and Beni Milleuk. A fire in the Tizi Ouzou province, specifically in the Tadmait municipality, has been extinguished, while efforts continue to suppress another fire in the Tigzirt municipality.
Firefighters in Bejaia successfully extinguished a scrubland fire in the Taskriout municipality. Another blaze, impacting a forest in Jijel province, was also brought under control. In Medea province, efforts are underway to extinguish a forest fire in the Hamdania municipality. Civil Defense teams in Tlemcen put out a scrubland fire that is under surveillance, while working on fires in Souk Tleta and Beni Mestar.
Two scrubland fires in Blida province, in the Bougara and Meftah municipalities, were completely extinguished. In Boumerdes, firefighting operations are ongoing in the Thenia municipality and the Bordj Menaiel municipality. Finally, in Ain Defla province, interventions are taking place to extinguish a forest fire in the Tashta Zegga municipality.
The Civil Defense has affirmed its commitment to containing all fires and protecting Algeria’s natural vegetation. They are deploying significant human and material resources to achieve full control and prevent further damage.
