Local authorities in the wilaya of Tipaza have implemented a series of measures to bolster efforts to extinguish wildfires currently raging in several of the region’s forests. These actions follow directives issued by the Prime Minister, in conjunction with the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation.
A key component of the response is the establishment of a crisis cell. This cell is responsible for the continuous and precise monitoring of the fire situation, ensuring rapid intervention mechanisms are activated, and guaranteeing operational harmony between various sectors. These efforts are guided by the parameters of the local emergency response plan.
Field inspections are underway to assess the progress of firefighting operations. The Director-General of Civil Protection and the Director-General of Forests are participating, along with local security and military officials, to evaluate preparedness levels and the effective execution of interventions.
Attention is also being given to evacuation centers. Authorities are ensuring the well-being of the 55 families who have been proactively relocated to safe zones. Specifically, the Mohamed Bouabdallah School in the commune of Messelmoun and the vocational training center in Cherchell have been prepared and equipped to provide temporary shelter, guaranteeing safety and comfort.
Local technical services are working to finalize essential interventions, prioritizing the restoration of critical infrastructure networks, particularly electrical power, to ensure the continuity of public services for citizens.
Civil society organizations are collaborating with local authorities, contributing through various volunteer initiatives to support these comprehensive efforts. The focus remains on containing the fires, protecting residents, and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.
