Building Collapse in Hussein Dey: Investigation Underway

Hussein Dey, Algiers – A residential building partially collapsed in the Hussein Dey district of Algiers, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. The incident occurred at 06 Rue Rabah Moussaoui, where half of a building consisting of a ground floor and four stories suffered a complete collapse of its right side.

Civil Protection units were dispatched to the scene, and one injured individual was transported to Mustapha Pacha University Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

The Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abd El-Nour Rabah, along with the Head of Security for the province, the Delegate Governor of the Hussein Dey administrative district, and the Mayor of Hussein Dey, rushed to the site to oversee rescue operations and ensure the safety of residents. As a precautionary measure, 27 families residing in the affected building and two adjacent structures were evacuated and temporarily relocated to a hotel in Hussein Dey.

The collapse is under investigation, with experts from the Technical Control Center for Construction (CTC) assessing the structural integrity of the remaining building. Initial findings suggest that a private real estate development project, authorized under building permit number 40 M.A/2025 issued by the Hussein Dey municipality on November 5, 2025, may have contributed to the incident. Reports indicate that excavation work, reaching depths of approximately four meters adjacent to the collapsed building’s foundation, may have destabilized the structure.

According to sources, the three buildings were in good condition prior to the incident, having undergone renovations by the province last year as part of a program to restore and rehabilitate old buildings in the capital. A thorough security investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the collapse, after which appropriate legal measures will be taken. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
