Sudan Displacement Crisis Deepens as Conflict Zones Expand

The displacement crisis in Sudan is escalating, creating one of the largest displacement situations globally. The ongoing conflict and widening battlefronts are forcing more and more people to flee their homes, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation. According to United Nations estimates, over 11.6 million people are internally displaced, and a staggering 25 million require urgent humanitarian assistance.

As fighting persists, waves of displacement are converging on key areas stretching from the north and center of the country to its western regions. In the Northern State, the city of Al Dabbah has become a major new hub for displaced persons, receiving thousands of families fleeing from Darfur, Kordofan, and Khartoum. Field estimates indicate that the number of displaced people in the state has surpassed 100,000 since last October.

However, Al Dabbah is not the largest concentration of displaced individuals. The area of Tawila, west of Al-Fashir, alone shelters over one million displaced people, with an estimated 300 new arrivals daily, according to local sources. The situation is placing immense strain on resources and infrastructure in these areas, raising concerns about access to food, water, shelter, and healthcare for the displaced population.

DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as they become available. The international community is urged to increase its support for humanitarian efforts in Sudan to address the urgent needs of those affected by the conflict.
