Ecuadorian Communist Party Voices Solidarity with Sahrawi People

Quito – The Central Committee of the Ecuadorian Communist Party has reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), the Polisario Front, and the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

In a statement released today, the party emphasized its commitment to supporting the Sahrawi people in their struggle for freedom and sovereignty. The statement highlighted the historical and legal basis for the Sahrawi cause, underscoring the importance of international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions in resolving the Western Sahara conflict.

The Ecuadorian Communist Party criticized what it described as the ongoing occupation of Western Sahara and called for a peaceful and just resolution to the dispute, one that respects the will of the Sahrawi people. The party urged the international community to increase its efforts to facilitate a referendum on self-determination, allowing the Sahrawi people to freely choose their future.

“We stand firmly with the Sahrawi people in their quest for liberation,” the statement read. “Their right to self-determination is fundamental and cannot be denied. We call on all progressive forces around the world to support their cause.”

The declaration from the Ecuadorian Communist Party adds to a growing chorus of international voices advocating for the rights of the Sahrawi people. The Western Sahara, a non-self-governing territory according to the United Nations, has been a subject of dispute for decades, with the Polisario Front seeking independence from Morocco.

The party concluded its statement by reiterating its commitment to working alongside international organizations and solidarity movements to achieve a lasting and equitable solution to the Western Sahara issue.
