Tipaza, Algeria – Wildfires have ravaged nearly 191 hectares of forest and fruit tree orchards in the western Tipaza province, according to a statement released today by the Governor of Tipaza, Mohamed Amine Benchaoulia.
The fires, which began on Thursday, impacted forested areas and agricultural lands across four municipalities located in the western part of the province. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but initial reports indicate significant losses for local farmers and the environment.
“We are working diligently to contain the remaining fires and to assess the full impact of this disaster,” stated Governor Benchaoulia. “Our priority is to provide support to those affected and to implement measures to prevent future incidents.”
The cause of the wildfires is currently under investigation. Authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution during this period of dry weather and high temperatures, which create ideal conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly.
The local government has mobilized firefighting teams and resources to combat the blazes, and is coordinating with national authorities for additional support. Efforts are underway to provide temporary shelter and assistance to families displaced by the fires.
This incident highlights the growing threat of wildfires in Algeria, particularly in regions with dense forests and agricultural lands. Experts are calling for increased investment in fire prevention and management strategies to protect vulnerable communities and ecosystems.
