Fake Officer Nabbed in Algiers with Weapons, Sensitive Gear

Algiers police have apprehended an individual impersonating a law enforcement officer. The suspect was found in possession of weapons and sensitive equipment during an operation in Sidi Moussa, under the jurisdiction of the Baraki administrative district.

The arrest, overseen by the Public Prosecutor, followed credible intelligence received by law enforcement regarding a person dressed in a uniform resembling that of a state security body and possessing sensitive materials. A period of surveillance led to the suspect’s identification and subsequent apprehension.

The operation resulted in the seizure of the following items:

  • Two (02) imitation firearms
  • Three (03) walkie-talkie radios
  • Nine (09) prohibited bladed weapons
  • A forged professional identification card
  • A counterfeit rectangular stamp
  • Small binoculars
  • A mask, uniform, cap, belt, protective vest, and holsters

The suspect has been presented before the Public Prosecutor on charges including unauthorized interference in the functions of state institutions, illegal use of a regulated professional title, unauthorized acquisition and use of classified devices and sensitive equipment, wearing clothing resembling a state security uniform in a manner likely to cause public confusion, unlawful wearing of a state uniform and official insignia, and possession of sixth-category weapons without legal justification.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Algiers police to combat impersonation and maintain public safety. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant law enforcement agencies.
