Tindouf-Bechar Railway Inauguration Set for January 2026

Algiers – The highly anticipated Tindouf-Bechar mining railway line is slated for inauguration in January 2026, marking a significant milestone in Algeria’s economic development. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued directives for the commencement of operations during a recent Council of Ministers meeting.

The meeting, which addressed several key national projects, included updates on the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine development and the progress of the Tindouf-Bechar railway. President Tebboune instructed the Minister of Public Works to prepare for a grand opening ceremony to commemorate the completion of the railway, which traverses deep into the Sahara.

The inauguration will signify the official launch of the railway’s operations, heralding a new era of major economic advancements for Algeria. The project is expected to significantly boost the nation’s mining sector and contribute to overall economic growth.

The Council of Ministers also discussed the advancement of administrative districts in the High Plateaus and Southern regions to full-fledged provinces, the construction of a 500-bed university hospital in Constantine, and the procurement of specialized equipment for the Digitalization Development Support Institution.

President Tebboune emphasized the importance of these projects in driving Algeria’s progress and improving the lives of its citizens. The Tindouf-Bechar railway is seen as a crucial component of Algeria’s strategy to diversify its economy and leverage its natural resources.
