Algiers – The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Said Saayoud, received the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, at the ministry headquarters on Monday. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation and financing strategic projects aimed at bolstering Algeria’s development trajectory.
During the discussions, both parties underscored the importance of strengthening the economic partnership between Algeria and the AfDB, recognizing the bank as a key financial institution supporting infrastructure and social development initiatives across the African continent.
Focus on Transport and Infrastructure
The discussions centered on the AfDB’s support for Algeria’s efforts in developing the transport and logistics sectors, particularly projects related to expanding the railway network and port infrastructure. These projects aim to enhance connectivity between the north and south of the country, positioning Algeria as a leading African trade hub.
The meeting also explored future partnership prospects to support qualitative projects within the framework of strengthening African economic integration.
Major Projects Under Presidential Guidance
The Minister presented a comprehensive overview of the major national projects underway under the supervision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, including:
- Construction of seawater desalination plants along the coastline to enhance water security.
- Completion of 950 kilometers of railway lines in the southern regions, relying on national expertise.
- Support for mining projects and optimal exploitation of strategic natural resources.
- Extensive investments to achieve food security through the development of strategic crops.
Mr. Saayoud emphasized that cooperation with the AfDB provides a crucial source of funding and expertise to accelerate these reforms and strengthen Algeria’s position within the African landscape.

The AfDB President expressed his appreciation for the significant progress in investment projects in Algeria, praising the seriousness of the development programs and the scale of achievements being launched.
