Severe Weather Alert Issued for Eastern, Central Algeria

DZWatch Exclusive – The Algerian Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather alert for several regions across eastern and central Algeria, including parts of the northern Sahara. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and stay informed as the weather system progresses.

The alert, released early this morning, forecasts heavy thunderstorms and significant rainfall across a wide swathe of the country. The affected regions include, but are not limited to, El Tarf, Annaba, Skikda, Jijel, Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, and Algiers. These areas are expected to receive substantial rainfall accumulations throughout the duration of the weather event.

Furthermore, the meteorological service warns of potential thunderstorm development in the southern regions, specifically the wilayas of El Oued, Touggourt, Ouargla, Ghardaia, El Meniaa, El Bayadh, and Bechar. These storms could bring localized heavy rainfall and may disrupt traffic flow on key roadways.

Authorities are advising residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to take necessary precautions. Citizens are strongly encouraged to follow the directives issued by the Civil Protection services to minimize risks associated with the inclement weather. Drivers should be aware of potential visibility reductions due to heavy rain and fog.

The weather alert also indicates the possibility of strong winds accompanying the thunderstorms, particularly in some desert areas. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for the latest information.
