The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have reportedly regained control of the strategic town of Bara in North Kordofan state. This development follows intense clashes and a series of offensives targeting positions previously held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the region.
According to local sources, the SAF launched coordinated attacks early Monday morning on multiple RSF-controlled areas within North Kordofan. These operations culminated in the SAF’s successful entry into and recapture of Bara.
This victory comes shortly after the army announced the recapture of the Um Seyala area, located north of the Kordofan state capital, Al-Ubayyid. Fighting also occurred there, with the SAF ultimately dislodging RSF elements, according to media reports.
Prior to seizing Um Seyala, the SAF had also announced the recapture of the village of Um Dum Hajj Ahmed, northeast of Al-Ubayyid, and the Kazqil area, south of the city. Significant troop deployments were reportedly undertaken to secure key cities and main roads that had been threatened by RSF concentrations.
In recent days, the Sudanese army, bolstered by allied forces, has launched widespread operations throughout North Kordofan. These efforts have resulted in the recapture of several areas previously under RSF control. The army has also deployed substantial forces across the state, effectively halting the RSF’s advance towards the cities of Al-Ubayyid, Al-Rahad, and Um Rawaba.
In addition to recapturing villages surrounding Al-Ubayyid, the SAF has conducted airstrikes in neighboring South Kordofan state and launched further aerial attacks in West Kordofan. Drone strikes have also been reported against RSF strongholds in Nyala and Geneina, located in the Darfur region.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which began in mid-April 2023, has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis. The United Nations and local authorities estimate that over 20,000 people have died, and approximately 15 million have been displaced or have fled as refugees.
