Algerian Government Focuses on Arts, Education, Innovation, and Circular Economy

Algiers – The Algerian government convened today, November 18, 2025, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, to address critical issues ranging from supporting artistic spaces to advancing a circular economy.

The meeting centered on strategies to protect public spaces, improve educational conditions, foster technological transformation, and develop waste recycling sectors as part of a transition towards a green and circular economy.

A key discussion point was a draft presidential decree outlining the conditions for creating and maintaining artistic works in public spaces. This initiative aims to establish unified technical and aesthetic standards to safeguard cultural heritage and showcase Algeria’s rich cultural identity.

In line with presidential directives concerning primary education, the government reviewed an emergency action plan to enhance services for students, particularly in areas such as school meals, transportation, heating, maintenance, and staffing. Priority will be given to rural and remote areas to ensure quality education during the winter months.

The meeting also included a presentation on mechanisms to support technological transfer and build a national economic model based on innovation and scientific research. The proposed roadmap involves establishing a national network of laboratories and technological platforms connecting universities and research centers. This initiative aims to unify efforts, efficiently utilize scientific and human resources, and bolster Algeria’s technological sovereignty.

Furthermore, the government examined a draft national code for waste recycling sectors, aimed at transitioning towards a circular economy. This strategy seeks to reduce the depletion of natural resources, limit dependence on imported raw materials, and create employment opportunities within the green economy. The government emphasized the importance of moving towards sustainable practices.
