Boumerdes, Algeria – Local health authorities have released a statement concerning a traffic accident involving a 20-year-old female student. The incident occurred on November 17, 2025, in front of a student transportation bus depot in Boumerdes.
According to the statement from the Boumerdes Directorate of Population and Health, the student received immediate medical attention upon arrival at the emergency surgical department of the Thénia Public Hospital. Due to the severity and complexity of her injuries, requiring a multi-disciplinary surgical team, she was transferred to the specialized Slim Zmirli Hospital in El Harrach.
The transfer was facilitated by the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) affiliated with the Thénia Public Hospital. The student’s case has been closely monitored at both the local and central levels.
Local officials including the Governor of Boumerdes, the President of the People’s Provincial Assembly, the Director of Population and Health, the Director of Boumerdes University, and the Director of University Services have been following the situation. At the central level, officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research are also involved, maintaining close coordination with health institutions in Algiers.
The Hassan Badi Hospital (Belfort) deployed a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology to join the surgical team at Zmirli Hospital. The student underwent a complex, multi-disciplinary surgery involving general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic and trauma surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesia and resuscitation. Experts from the Maouche Mohand Amokrane Hospital specializing in cardiovascular surgery (CNMS) and the Zéralda Grand Burns Hospital also contributed their expertise in vascular surgery and reconstructive surgery.
The student continues to receive necessary treatment at Zmirli Hospital in El Harrach. The Directorate of Population and Health emphasizes that it is closely monitoring the student’s condition in coordination with all involved parties.
