Algiers – The National Democratic Rally (RND) has expressed its strong disapproval of what it describes as a ‘systematic campaign’ aimed at undermining Algeria’s historical and leading role in defending the just Palestinian cause.
In an official statement, the RND emphasized that Algeria’s voting record at the United Nations reflects a steadfast and deeply rooted commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. The party stated that Algeria’s vote in favor of the recent UN resolution regarding the situation in Gaza is consistent with its well-known diplomatic approach and unwavering principles in support of the Palestinian struggle.
The RND highlighted Algeria’s consistent defense of the Palestinian cause, noting that the nation has never wavered in its moral and historical duty, despite facing political, diplomatic, and economic repercussions for its principled stance.
Key points emphasized by the National Democratic Rally include:
Firstly, Algeria, through its permanent mission in New York, actively worked to protect civilians in Gaza, both before and during its non-permanent membership in the Security Council. It played a central role in international consultations aimed at halting the aggression and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Secondly, Algeria has maintained the highest level of unconditional support for Palestine, a principled position it has not compromised despite the sensitivity of its regional and international interests.
Thirdly, Algeria voted in favor of the recent UN resolution after arduous diplomatic negotiations, during which it successfully introduced essential amendments that addressed key priorities, including:
1. Establishing a ceasefire and preventing the resumption of hostilities. 2. Providing international protection for Palestinians through the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force in Gaza. 3. Ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid. 4. Creating conditions for the reconstruction of the sector with the support of international financial institutions.
The RND reiterated that no one can outbid Algeria in its commitment to the ‘mother of all causes’.
