Algeria and Spain Initiate Bilateral Talks on Security Cooperation

Algiers, October 20, 2025 – Bilateral discussions between Algeria and Spain commenced this morning in Algiers, focusing on enhanced cooperation in security and related sectors. The meeting is led by Algerian Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, and his Spanish counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, with delegations from both countries participating.

The Algerian delegation includes the Director-General of National Security and the Director-General of Civil Protection. Representing Spain are key officials, including the Commissioner General for Immigration and Borders, the Head of Border and Maritime Police Command, the Director of International Relations, the Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies, and the Director-General of Traffic.

The primary objective of these talks is to strengthen collaboration and coordination between Algeria and Spain, particularly within the Interior Ministry’s purview. Algeria is considered a strategic partner for Spain in the Mediterranean region. The discussions aim to bolster security cooperation, facilitate effective coordination in curbing illegal immigration, secure maritime borders, combat drug trafficking, enhance road safety, and improve disaster response and civil protection measures.

This meeting underscores the shared commitment of Algeria and Spain to reinforce political dialogue, security cooperation, and the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between the two nations.
