Algeria Aims for Top Spot in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025

Algeria is setting its sights on becoming the world leader in the number of activities organized during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025, according to Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises. GEW is an annual event held from November 17th to 23rd.

During a recent address, Minister Ouadah expressed confidence that the rapid growth of Algeria’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, combined with the country’s available resources, will enable it to top the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN)’s platform, the international organization behind GEW.

He emphasized that this year’s edition reinforces the integration between knowledge sources, such as universities and training centers, and the knowledge economy. He also highlighted the importance of state mechanisms designed to support project holders and help them transform their ideas into viable businesses. These initiatives are in line with Algeria’s vision of building a diversified, sustainable, and wealth-generating economy.

DZWatch understands that the government is placing significant emphasis on fostering an environment conducive to startup growth.

Echoing this sentiment, Minister of Higher Education, Kamal Bedari, reiterated the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship within universities. He stated that higher education institutions are a cornerstone in implementing the state’s strategy to create 20,000 startups by 2029. This ambitious goal underscores Algeria’s commitment to leveraging its human capital and knowledge base to drive economic development.

The focus on entrepreneurship and startups is viewed as a key component in diversifying the Algerian economy and reducing its reliance on traditional sectors. The government’s support for innovation and startups is expected to play a crucial role in achieving sustainable economic growth and creating new job opportunities for young Algerians.

DZWatch will continue to monitor Algeria’s progress in developing its entrepreneurship ecosystem and its preparations for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025.
