SDF Commander: We Pose No Threat, Operate Under Syrian State

The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, stated that his forces “pose no threat to anyone” and affirmed that the SDF administers regions under the umbrella of the Syrian state.

Speaking at a conference in Iraqi Kurdistan on Wednesday, Abdi expressed his hope that all provisions of the March 10th agreement with the Syrian government would be fully implemented by the end of this year. He described the agreement as “beneficial” and said it “put an end to hate speech and revenge.”

“It is better to achieve peace through dialogue,” Abdi stated. “We hope to reach a national dialogue to address the existing problems in Syria,” stressing that power in Syria should be decentralized.

He alluded to ongoing discussions regarding the integration of the SDF into the Syrian military. “Our forces pose no threat to anyone, and our administration operates under the umbrella of the Syrian state,” he reiterated.

Abdi also called upon the international community to support Syria and give it an opportunity for reconstruction and development.

Clashes that occurred weeks prior had cast doubt on the March agreement between Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and Mazloum Abdi, which stipulated the integration of the SDF into state institutions.

The SDF commander emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
