Tebboune said that Algeria knows the cost of freedom, and that is why it will not abandon its support for just causes and oppressed peoples struggling for liberation.

He pointed out that Algeria has always sought to support the Palestinian cause, in order to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable rights to establish an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Tebboune explained that in accordance with international law, and as an expression of its position and support for the just Palestinian cause, Algeria last year personally supervised the convening of a reconciliation conference to unify Palestinian factions, which culminated in the adoption of the Algeria Declaration.

He expressed his country’s commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative and the end of occupation, which he said is the fundamental cause of instability in the Middle East. He called on the international community to shoulder its moral and historical responsibility to enable the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny and restore their full and unhindered rights.

From the United Nations podium, Tebboune called on the International Court of Justice to respond to the request of the United Nations General Assembly to issue an advisory opinion on practices that violate human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.

He also stressed the need for the Security Council to adopt a resolution that reaffirms the two-state solution, which enjoys international consensus, and halts the unilateral actions of the occupying power, including settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Tebboune urged the convening of an extraordinary session of the General Assembly to grant the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
