The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has reported significant successes in combating terrorism, organized crime, and illegal immigration during operations conducted between November 12th and 18th. These operations underscore the ANP’s vigilance and effectiveness across the country.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of National Defense, a terrorist identified as Tibari Hafed, known as “Qasaoui,” surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, in the Sixth Military Region. He handed over a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, ammunition, and other belongings. Separately, army detachments apprehended eight individuals providing support to terrorist groups during various operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and protecting citizens and their property.
In a major blow to drug trafficking, the ANP, in coordination with security services, thwarted attempts to smuggle narcotics across borders. Twenty-seven drug traffickers were arrested, and a staggering 101.45 kilograms of processed cannabis (kif) were seized, along with 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and 967,504 psychotropic tablets.
Furthermore, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, ANP detachments apprehended 186 individuals, seized 27 vehicles, 296 generators, and 164 pressure hammers. They also confiscated quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used for illegal mining. In separate operations, 14 more individuals were arrested, and authorities seized one FMPK machine gun, three Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, six hunting rifles, 27,440 liters of fuel, and 10 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation.
Coast Guard units rescued 152 individuals aboard makeshift boats and apprehended 491 illegal immigrants of various nationalities across the national territory. These actions reaffirm the ongoing efforts to secure national borders and coastlines.
These operations demonstrate the ANP’s ability to intervene effectively in various security domains, safeguarding the country from terrorist, economic, and social threats.
