Algiers, November 19, 2025 – Joint detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP), in coordination with various security services, have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotics into Algeria via the border with Morocco. The operation, conducted across several military regions, resulted in the apprehension of 27 drug traffickers and the seizure of 145 kilograms of processed cannabis.
According to an operational report released by the ANP, authorities also confiscated 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and 967,504 psychotropic tablets. These seizures underscore the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime within the country.
In separate operations carried out in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, ANP units apprehended 186 individuals involved in illegal activities. These operations led to the seizure of 27 vehicles, 296 generators, and 164 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations. This highlights the army’s commitment to tackling all forms of illicit activity within the country’s borders.
Furthermore, authorities apprehended 14 individuals and seized an FMPK submachine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, six hunting rifles, and 27,440 liters of fuel. Additionally, 10 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation were confiscated during various operations.
In related news, the Coast Guard successfully intercepted several attempts at illegal immigration along Algeria’s national coastline. They rescued 152 individuals who were aboard makeshift vessels. Additionally, 491 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the national territory. These actions demonstrate Algeria’s commitment to securing its borders and combating illegal immigration.
