The Algerian Embassy in Madrid hosted a reception yesterday evening to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Algerian Revolution, marking November 1, 1954. This year’s commemoration is themed “A Message to Generations.”
The event, overseen by Algerian Ambassador Abdel Fattah Daghmoum, saw the attendance of representatives from Spanish governmental and official bodies, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international and regional organizations accredited in Spain, members of the Algerian community, and friends of Algeria.
In his address, Ambassador Daghmoum highlighted the significance of this pivotal historical moment, which ignited one of the greatest liberation revolutions in modern history. He emphasized that after a long struggle and immense sacrifices, it culminated in the restoration of national sovereignty and the achievement of freedom and independence.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to showcase the various structural reforms and achievements of the New Algeria under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at accelerating development and advancing towards building a strong and prosperous Algeria.
On the international stage, Ambassador Daghmoum reiterated the steadfast and noble principles upon which Algeria’s foreign policy is based. He highlighted the important role played by Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, in advocating for justice and defending all oppressed peoples and just causes worldwide, particularly the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues.
In closing, the Algerian Ambassador praised the friendly and cooperative relations between Algeria and Spain, and the renewed dynamism they have witnessed recently. He affirmed the mutual determination to strengthen these ties in all fields, serving the common interests of both countries and their friendly peoples.
The event concluded with a dinner featuring traditional Algerian cuisine and musical performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Algeria.
