Istanbul, Turkey – A joint delegation from the Algerian Parliament is participating in the Mediterranean Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which commenced Wednesday in Istanbul, Turkey.
The forum, a key platform for dialogue and cooperation on regional security and development, brings together parliamentarians from across the Mediterranean region and OSCE participating States. Discussions are expected to focus on a range of critical issues, including combating transnational crime, promoting economic cooperation, addressing environmental challenges, and fostering intercultural understanding.
According to a statement released by the Council of the Nation, the upper house of the Algerian Parliament, the Algerian delegation will actively contribute to the debates and share Algeria’s perspectives on these pressing matters. The delegation aims to highlight Algeria’s commitment to regional stability and its ongoing efforts to address common challenges through diplomatic engagement and collaborative initiatives.
DZWatch understands that the Algerian parliamentarians will also emphasize the importance of inclusive governance and sustainable development as key factors in promoting long-term peace and security in the Mediterranean region. They are expected to advocate for increased international support for countries in the region facing economic and security vulnerabilities.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly serves as a vital link between national parliaments and the OSCE’s executive structures, providing a forum for parliamentarians to discuss issues of concern, exchange best practices, and contribute to the organization’s overall policy agenda. The Mediterranean Forum is a particularly important component of the Assembly’s work, focusing specifically on the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Mediterranean region.
The forum is scheduled to continue for several days, with a series of plenary sessions, committee meetings, and side events planned to facilitate in-depth discussions and foster collaboration among participants. DZWatch will continue to monitor the proceedings and provide updates on the Algerian delegation’s contributions.
