A3+ Group Advocates for Syrian Future Reflecting People’s Aspirations

New York – The A3+ group affirmed its commitment to supporting Syria’s unity and stability on Wednesday, calling for an end to ongoing military operations and the withdrawal from all Syrian territories. The statement was made during a UN Security Council session on Syria.

Speaking on behalf of the A3+ group, Ambassador Amar Bendjama of Algeria emphasized the group’s dedication to a unified and stable Syria. He urged all parties involved to act responsibly, adhere to international law, and contribute to a future that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people. He further stated that progress in Syria should ultimately be based on an inclusive political process led and owned by Syrians, in line with the core principles outlined in Resolution 2254.

The A3+ group acknowledged the important role played by the United Nations in assisting Syrian national institutions, facilitating dialogue processes, and providing humanitarian and technical support where appropriate.

Ambassador Bendjama highlighted several observations, welcoming the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2799, which he described as sending an important political message. The group expressed confidence that this step would enhance the performance of Syrian institutions and contribute to creating favorable conditions for greater stability.

He stressed that accountability and the promotion thereof are indispensable alongside national reconciliation. The group acknowledged the work being done by transitional committees and called on all parties to facilitate the activities of these committees and interact with them constructively.

On the security front, the group expressed serious concern about reports indicating a resurgence of ISIS activities in some areas of Syria, particularly those experiencing security gaps. They warned that these developments serve as a reminder that terrorism remains a serious threat to the country and the entire region. From this standpoint, they called for coordinated and decisive efforts to address this threat, while emphasizing that security gains cannot be sustained without a parallel improvement in economic and social conditions.

The A3+ group also condemned the ongoing military operations in Syrian territories.
