Scientific Journalism: Key to Algeria’s Resilience, Says Minister

Algiers – The Minister of Communication, Zohir Bouamama, has emphasized the critical role of scientific journalism in bolstering societal resilience and combating misinformation within Algeria. His remarks came during the opening of a study day dedicated to the “Reality of Scientific Journalism in Algeria,” organized in partnership with the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology.

Minister Bouamama stressed that strengthening the presence of scientific knowledge in the media is now an urgent necessity to keep pace with the rapid transformations the world is witnessing. He stated that organizing this event reflects a forward-looking vision aimed at bringing the media closer to the scientific community and making reliable information an essential part of the national media content, thereby contributing to spreading awareness and establishing a culture of innovation.

Bouamama pointed out that scientific journalism today is no longer just a means of conveying news, but has become a sophisticated intellectual tool that contributes to raising societal awareness and supporting efforts to combat misinformation spread across digital platforms. He highlighted the importance the Ministry of Communication attaches to training, considering it the cornerstone in preparing professional journalists capable of analysis, verification, and following international developments. This allows for the construction of an objective media discourse that highlights the state’s efforts and protects public opinion from malicious campaigns.

The Minister added that the national media landscape can no longer tolerate randomness but requires greater organization and responsible professional practices that keep pace with the requirements of the times. He affirmed that the development of scientific journalism is an essential part of the media reform project in Algeria and an important element in strengthening the intellectual security of society.

Bouamama concluded his address by calling for the continuation of collective action to promote scientific journalism, describing it as one of the strategic pillars for supporting knowledge development in the country.
