Lebanon at Critical Juncture, Army Chief Warns

Beirut – Lebanon is navigating one of the most critical and challenging periods in its history, according to Army Commander General Rudolph Heikal. The ongoing occupation of Lebanese territory by the Zionist entity and its persistent violations, which result in casualties and impede the army’s deployment, are exacerbating the situation.

In a speech delivered on the occasion of Lebanon’s Independence Day, General Heikal emphasized the significant efforts made by the army since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement. These efforts are aimed at executing the army’s plan to strengthen its presence in the southern Litani sector and extend state authority over all its territories.

“These endeavors require diligent support within the framework of a comprehensive national effort, providing the necessary capabilities and creating the conditions for restoring stability,” General Heikal stated.

It’s worth recalling that a ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon came into effect on November 27th of last year. The agreement stipulated the withdrawal of the Zionist entity’s forces from the border villages and towns in southern Lebanon within 60 days.

Subsequently, the Lebanese government approved an extension of the deadline until February 18th. However, the occupying army remained in five locations and continues to commit violations.

The Army Commander’s remarks underscore the fragility of the current situation and the ongoing challenges facing Lebanon in securing its sovereignty and stability. The Lebanese Armed Forces continue to play a vital role in safeguarding the nation amidst these complex circumstances.
