Massive Drug Bust in Souk Ahras Thwarts Smuggling Attempt

Souk Ahras, Algeria – Authorities in Souk Ahras have successfully intercepted a significant quantity of illicit substances, preventing their entry into the local market. The operation, conducted at the Ouled Moumen border post by the Passenger Inspection Division, in collaboration with the 5th Military Region’s Prevention and Security Service, resulted in the seizure of thousands of psychotropic tablets and a substantial amount of Lexomil.

According to a statement released by the Regional Directorate of Customs in Annaba, the operation led to the confiscation of 5,001 Pregabalin 150mg tablets, 2,885 Lexomil 6mg tablets, and 130 grams of Lexomil powder. The seized narcotics were meticulously concealed within a Renault Clio Classic vehicle.

The initial discovery was made under the vehicle’s hood. Further investigation revealed additional concealed compartments beneath the air conditioning unit, where the remaining contraband was located. The meticulous concealment underscores the determination of smugglers and the vigilance required by law enforcement to combat such activities.

A seizure report has been filed, and the primary suspect, along with two accomplices, have been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Souk Ahras Court. An investigation is currently underway to determine the full extent of the smuggling operation and to identify any other individuals involved. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain security within the region.
