Minister Inspects Key Western Mining Railway Project

The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, arrived early Saturday at Tindouf’s Redjradj Airport to assess the progress of the vital Western Mining Railway project connecting Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet.

According to a statement released by the ministry, this inspection visit is in direct response to instructions issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the recent Council of Ministers meeting. The President mandated that the entire Bechar-Tindouf mining railway line be fully operational by January 2026.

The Minister’s itinerary for November 22nd and 23rd includes field visits to the provinces of Tindouf, Beni Abbes, and Bechar. These visits are crucial for a comprehensive evaluation of the project’s progress along its entire route. The aim is to ensure the construction is proceeding at the required pace to guarantee the project’s readiness before the end of December 2025.

This railway line is considered a strategic infrastructure project for Algeria, facilitating the transportation of minerals, particularly iron ore, from the Gara Djebilet mines to processing and export facilities. The successful completion of this project is expected to significantly boost the national economy and contribute to regional development.

The government has emphasized the importance of adhering to the specified timeline and maintaining the highest standards of quality in the construction process. The Minister’s on-site inspections are intended to identify and address any potential challenges that could impede the project’s timely completion.

DZWatch will continue to provide updates on the progress of this crucial infrastructure endeavor as it unfolds.
