Several provinces across Algeria are experiencing severe weather conditions today, Saturday, characterized by heavy snowfall and intense thunderstorms. The national weather service issued a special bulletin and repeated warnings regarding the ongoing weather disturbances.
Authorities cautioned residents about the continued presence of locally significant thunderstorms, with rainfall potentially exceeding 70 millimeters in some areas. These conditions are expected to persist until midnight. The affected provinces include Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Sétif, Béjaïa, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf. The heavy rainfall could lead to traffic disruptions and rising water levels in certain waterways.
A separate weather advisory confirmed that heavy snowfall will continue in areas above 900 meters, with accumulations reaching up to 20 centimeters. This situation is expected to last until 3 PM today and affects the provinces of Bouira, Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Béjaïa, Jijel, Sétif, and Bordj Bou Arreridj.
Furthermore, the provinces of Skikda, Mila, Constantine, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, and Khenchela are also bracing for heavy snowfall. Accumulations of up to 10 centimeters are anticipated in areas above 900 meters, with these conditions expected to last until midday today.
The weather service further indicated that snowfall, potentially reaching 10 centimeters in areas above 1000 meters, will continue until 9 AM this morning.
