RIYADH – Algeria will participate in the Global Industry Summit (GIS) 2025, scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 23rd to 27th. The summit, formerly the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is expected to draw leaders, ministers, industry experts, and prominent economic figures from around the globe.
Representing Algeria will be the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, who will lead a high-level delegation comprising officials from the hydrocarbons, mining, and industrial sectors. The delegation will also include the Algerian ambassadors to Austria and Saudi Arabia, the head of the National Agency for Mining Activities, and senior executives from relevant institutions.
Minister Arkab is slated to participate in a high-level international session on Monday, November 24th, focusing on “Unlocking the Potential of Clean Hydrogen through Investment and Innovation.” This session will highlight the increasing role of clean hydrogen in supporting sustainable industry, while also discussing financing mechanisms and international cooperation. The event will also witness the official launch of UNIDO’s Global Clean Hydrogen Program, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8), from which nine countries, including Algeria, will benefit.
The GIS 2025 is a major international forum dedicated to shaping industrial development policies. Representatives from 173 member states will convene to discuss the future of industry, digitalization, the circular economy, green industry, fair value chains, and financing for large-scale industrial projects. New initiatives to support technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise between developing and middle-income countries will also be presented.
Algeria’s participation is particularly significant as it seeks to expand its international presence and strengthen its position as a reliable partner in the fields of industry, energy, and mining. This aligns with the national strategy to diversify the economy, develop traditional and renewable energy sources, and exploit mineral resources. During his participation, the Minister of State will hold a series of bilateral meetings.
