Algeria Elected to African Parliamentary Union Executive Committee

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – Algeria has been elected to the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) during the 47th session of the Speakers of National Parliaments of the APU held in Kinshasa. The session, which concluded after two days of intensive discussions, focused on various political and economic issues crucial to the future of the African continent.

According to a statement released by the People’s National Assembly, Algeria secured the position of Vice-President representing the North African region within the Executive Committee. This election is considered a significant recognition of Algeria’s central role in strengthening African parliamentary cooperation and advocating for shared interests within various regional bodies.

During the final day of the session, delegates approved the reports from both the Political and Economic Committees. The Political Committee’s report, titled ‘Strengthening National Sovereignty of African States for Sustainable Development,’ was adopted after thorough deliberation. The Economic Committee presented its report on ‘Challenges of Energy Transition and the Development of Renewable Energies in Africa.’

Both reports included a series of recommendations aimed at promoting political stability and improving economic governance across African nations. The discussions underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the continent’s pressing challenges and fostering sustainable development.

The Algerian delegation expressed its commitment to actively contributing to the APU’s objectives and working alongside other member states to advance the interests of the African people. The election highlights Algeria’s continued dedication to Pan-Africanism and its commitment to playing a leading role in shaping the continent’s future.
