Tébessa: Smuggling Attempt of 13,000 Pregabalin Capsules Foiled

Tébessa, Algeria – Algerian customs officials have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Pregabalin capsules into the country. The operation, a joint effort between the mobile unit of the Customs Division of Bir El Ater and the National Gendarmerie units of El Ogla El Malha, resulted in the seizure of 13,500 capsules.

The smuggled substance, identified as Pregabalin 300mg, is a restricted medication often abused for its psychoactive effects. Authorities believe the capsules were intended for illegal distribution within the country.

According to a statement released by the Regional Directorate of Customs in Tébessa, the operation also led to the confiscation of a motorcycle used to facilitate the transportation and smuggling of the drugs. The statement emphasized the significance of this seizure in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.

“This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Algerian Customs to combat the smuggling of psychotropic substances,” the statement read. “We are dedicated to protecting public health and combating all forms of organized crime across our borders.”

The seizure is part of a broader effort by Algerian authorities to crack down on the illegal trafficking of narcotics and prescription drugs. The Algerian Customs Service has intensified its vigilance at border crossings and increased its collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to disrupt smuggling networks.

The investigation into the attempted smuggling is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend those involved in the illicit operation. This latest seizure highlights the persistent challenges faced by Algeria in combating drug trafficking and the crucial role played by customs officials in safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting its citizens.
