Napoli has climbed to the top of the Serie A standings, at least temporarily, after a convincing victory over Atalanta. The Partenopei defeated their visitors 3-1 in Saturday’s match, part of the 12th round of the Italian league.
Following their previous loss to Bologna, Napoli’s win brings their total to 25 points, placing them in first place. However, Inter Milan, currently in second with 1 point behind, has the opportunity to reclaim the top spot in the highly anticipated Milan derby against rivals AC Milan, who sit fifth in the table, on Sunday.
Roma, holding the fourth position with 24 points, also has a chance to reach the summit temporarily when they face Cremonese on Sunday, pending the outcome of the Milan derby. The Serie A title race is proving to be one of the most exciting in recent years.
For Atalanta, the loss leaves them with 13 points, remaining in thirteenth place. This match marked the debut for the team under the guidance of new coach Raffaele Palladino, who took over from Ivan Jurić.
On the pitch, Brazilian forward David Neres scored twice for Napoli in the 17th and 38th minutes. Noa Lang added a third goal near the end of the first half. Gianluca Scamacca scored Atalanta’s only goal in the 52nd minute, but it wasn’t enough to change the trajectory of the match.
