The Algerian Ministry of National Education has taken delivery of 489 educational institutions in preparation for the 2025-2026 academic year. An additional 502 institutions are projected to be completed and ready for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, according to a recent report from the Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City.
The report was presented during a meeting co-chaired by the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, and the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui. The meeting focused on evaluating the 2025-2026 school year and preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year with regards to educational facilities.
The meeting saw participation from directors of housing and public facilities from various provinces, both in person and via video conference, as well as parliamentarians from both houses. The report highlighted the completion of 262 primary schools out of a planned 324, 154 middle schools out of 228, and 73 high schools out of 101 during the recent school year. This represents an implementation rate of approximately 75% of the established goals.
The remaining portion of the program, consisting of 164 educational facilities, is expected to be completed before the end of 2025. The Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City is responsible for implementing a significant portion of this program, particularly educational facilities within integrated housing projects, alongside local authorities.
Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 academic year, the completion of 502 educational institutions is anticipated. This includes 287 primary schools, 170 middle schools, and 45 high schools across various provinces of the country.
Mr. Belaribi emphasized that the number of educational facilities planned for 2025 and 2026 represents over 80% compared to the number recorded between 2020 and 2024, which he stated “reflects the great attention paid by the highest authorities in the country to supporting educational structures.” He added that the pace of construction has seen “tangible progress,” with 620 educational facilities delivered between 2020 and 2024, while 322 facilities were delivered in 2025 alone, representing nearly 50% of what was distributed during the previous five years.
The 2026 Finance Law, recently approved by the People’s National Assembly, includes a commitment of DZD 150 billion for the construction of educational institutions, compared to DZD 67 billion in the 2025 Finance Law.
